Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) is a progressive Aboriginal corporation based in Maningrida that employs over 200 people. We represent and assist over 4000 Aboriginal people in the 32 homelands surrounding Maningrida in West Arnhem Land. Our work is carried out in the context of people’s traditional lands, cultural practices, and languages. Our services include new building and maintenance, road maintenance, arts, community development programs, collection of wild foods, and many more.
Job Description
The Human Resource Manager at Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation plays a crucial role in leading and managing the corporation's human resources functions. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of HR operations and ensuring that the corporation's HR policies and procedures align with its strategic goals and objectives. This is position is located in remote community, Maningrida, NT.
The main tasks and responsibilities of the Human Resource Manager include:
Developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
Overseeing the recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing, and hiring new staff
Managing employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management
Administering compensation and benefits plans
Ensuring legal compliance throughout human resource management
Supporting current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital
Developing and monitoring overall HR strategies, systems, tactics, and procedures across the corporation
Nurturing a positive working environment
Overseeing and managing a performance appraisal system that drives high performance
Maintaining pay plan and benefits program
Assessing training needs to apply and monitor training programs
Report to management on HR issues
The Human Resource Manager will be a key contributor to fostering a positive workplace culture while ensuring that the corporation attracts, retains, develops, motivates, engages, rewards, recognizes, as well as managing any potential conflicts or disputes within the workforce.
Desired Skills and Experience
Required skills
Proven experience as an HR manager or similar role
Demonstrable experience with human resources metrics
In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices
Strong leadership abilities and strategic mindset
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to effectively manage a team and foster a positive work environment
Proficiency in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) and MS Office suite
Outstanding organizational and time-management abilities
Aptitude in problem-solving and conflict resolution
BSc/BA in Human Resources, Business Administration or relevant field; MSc/MA/MBA will be a plus
Required experiences
Minimum of 5 years of experience as an HR manager or in a senior HR role within a complex organization.
Membership with HR Professional Bodies (Australian Human Resource Institute)
Demonstrated track record of successfully developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the organization's objectives
Familiarity with Australian employment regulations, Aboriginal employment policies, and workplace diversity programs
Proven experience in handling sensitive employee relations issues with confidentiality, empathy, and professionalism
Experience residing in a remote Aboriginal Community and working for not-for-profit.
