Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) is a progressive Aboriginal corporation based in Maningrida that employs over 200 people. We represent and assist over 4000 Aboriginal people in the 32 homelands surrounding Maningrida in West Arnhem Land. Our work is carried out in the context of people’s traditional lands, cultural practices, and languages. Our services include new building and maintenance, road maintenance, arts, community development programs, collection of wild foods, and many more.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Outreach & Engagement
    • Visit homes to meet families, young people and Elders.
    • Share info about school programs, training and career pathways.
    • Plan and deliver school holiday programs to keep kids learning and connected.
  • Relationship Building
    • Build strong, trusting connections so people feel comfortable asking for help.
    • Act as a cultural liaison—listen to needs and feed them back into program planning.
  • Case Management
    • Complete intake forms, gather background details and follow up on each family’s progress.
    • Coordinate referrals to schools, health services or other supports.
    • Check in regularly, update case notes and track engagement.
  • Community Events & Workshops
    • Organise info sessions and community gatherings about learning and skills.
    • Facilitate hands‑on workshops (e.g. “Young men and young women)
    • Work with Elders and local groups to make sure activities respect cultural values.
  • School Bus Runs
    • Operate the school bus service from 7:30 am to 10 am, helping children get to learning on time.
  • Partnerships & Collaboration
    • Link with Maningrida College, Department of Education staff and other service providers.
    • Attend community meetings to share updates and gather feedback.
  • Reporting & Continuous Improvement
    • Keep clear, up‑to‑date records of outreach visits, case plans and outcomes.
    • Ask community members for feedback and use it to improve the program.

Who You Are

  • Strong knowledge of our local languages, customs and community ways.
  • Experience in outreach, engagement or case management in remote settings.
  • Clear communicator who builds trust quickly.
  • Organised and good at following up on tasks and case plans.
  • Comfortable working with schools, service agencies and community leaders.

Desired Skills and Experience

Nice to Have

  • Certificate or diploma in Community Services, Education or related field (or willingness to study).
  • Previous experience running holiday programs or facilitating workshops.

Requirements

  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) (We can help you get this)
  • National Police Check (We can help you get this)
  • Driver’s licence and willingness to travel around community (including some evenings/weekends
