Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) is a progressive Aboriginal corporation based in Maningrida that employs over 200 people. We represent and assist over 4000 Aboriginal people in the 32 homelands surrounding Maningrida in West Arnhem Land. Our work is carried out in the context of people’s traditional lands, cultural practices, and languages. Our services include new building and maintenance, road maintenance, arts, community development programs, collection of wild foods, and many more.

Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead the Site management of housing construction and successful implementation as provided
  2. Provide Site supervision to construction team and sub-contractors in a safe,  effective and sustainable manner
  3. Develop and implement relevant scopes of work for all BAC construction programs to ensure they are in line with contractual requirements, applicable to building and industry codes, safe, sustainable and fit for purpose.
  4. Implement and deliver safe work processes across all aspects of the construction teams
  5. Project manage sub-contractors to ensure compliance and delivery of key performance indicators.
  6. Ensure all statutory compliance systems and occupational health and safety requirements are fulfilled including public safety, security and disability access requirements to BAC infrastructure
  7. Identify and monitor BAC and/or third party providers who diagnose and handle day-to-day faults and emergency situations to ensure work is undertaken within agreed timelines.
  8. Design and continuously improve systems to monitor the condition of BAC’s construction services.
  9. Coordination of Indigenous workers with subcontractors, CDEP and BAC labour hire by PM to ensure work is done to programme and as per scope and specification
  10. Advise on any technical issues on site and the best solution reporting outcome and ensure follow up and consultation with Manager to a satisfactory conclusion
  11. Provide Site Variation advice for submission to the Manager for client approval
  12. All Site management duties as directed by Manager
  13. Minor Estimation duties on small projects to $5,000
  14. Assisting in the submission of big tenders as needed
  15. Assist with scopes of works as required
  16. Work effectively in a team environment
  17. Identify continuous improvement opportunities
  18. Develop and maintain positive stakeholder relationships with all BAC staff, and develop sound working relationships through delivering appropriate and honest support and/or feedback.
  19. Ensure communications are appropriate to BAC Employees, Directors, Communities, Stakeholders and partner organisations.
  20. Any other duties requested by your supervisor which are within your capabilities.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:

  1. Significant project management, supervision and coordination of building projects through internal and external contractors.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to leading and delivering a safe work culture
  3. Exceptional communication, analytical and problem solving skills including an ability to produce technical documents, specifications, briefing papers and submissions on a range of construction and building related matters
  4. Demonstrated experience and In-depth working knowledge of the relevant codes, standards, practices, regulatory and legislative requirements relating to property functions.
  5. Highly organised and action-oriented in seeking innovative solutions.
  6. Extensive experience in continuous quality improvement practices and systems that collect, analyse and summarise data and trends and produce reports to achieve organisation goals.
  7. Building Registration/Building Trade Qualifications
  8. Over 7 years Construction supervision experience
  9. Construction Card
  10. High Risk Work licence
  11. Current Drivers licence
  12. Ochre Card or ability to obtain
