Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) is a progressive Aboriginal corporation based in Maningrida that employs over 200 people. We represent and assist over 4000 Aboriginal people in the 32 homelands surrounding Maningrida in West Arnhem Land. Our work is carried out in the context of people’s traditional lands, cultural practices, and languages. Our services include new building and maintenance, road maintenance, arts, community development programs, collection of wild foods, and many more.

Job Description

BAC is a large and complex regional community development organisation providing services to homelands in the Maningrida region, administering some 50 grants and managing a suite of businesses and programs including:  Housing, Civil Works, Essential Services, Bábbarra Women’s Centre, Bawinanga Rangers, Barlmarrk Supermarket, Fuel Supplies, Mechanical Workshops, Arts and Culture/Djomi Museum, Wild Foods Café, Community Patrol, Employment Services and Money Management Services.

BAC is governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by corporation members every two years.  BAC enacts policies developed at the executive level through the leadership of the CEO and the Senior Management team.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Key Accountabilities

1.        Responsible for customer service, reliability and dependability by providing all fields with technical assistance that they require from the Workshop.

2.        Hands-on supervision of all workshop activities, especially technical issues, provides on-the-job training as well as coaching and mentoring to mechanic and helpers.

3.        Plan and organise Preventative Maintenance System (PMS) and delegate specific tasks to concerned mechanic.

4.        Supervise, follow-up on actual progress of each individual repair job and follow up repair order, registering the time taken to complete each task.

5.        Efficient management of the spare parts outlet and Recycle yard

6.        Delivering excellent customer service to all internal and external customers

7.        Inventory and stock take for spare parts outlet ensuring efficient management of inventory

8.        Ability to work as part of a team in a cross cultural environment, fostering open communication and continuous quality improvement with a positive and innovative approach to problem solving.

9.        Efficient management of the spare parts store, seeking best pricing and competitive quotes

10.     Possess an excellent consultative approach to management with sound experience in planning and well developed organisational skills

11.     Demonstrated high level of competency in the use of computer networks, Microsoft Office software (in particular Excel & Word), together with ECSN accounting systems software. 

12.     Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively and produce confidential written reports of quality and relevance.

13.     Work effectively in a team environment

14.     Adhere to the Workplace Health and Safety regulatory requirements

15.     Identify continuous improvement opportunities

16.     Develop and maintain positive stakeholder relationships with all BAC staff, and develop sound working relationships through delivering appropriate and honest support and/or feedback.

17.     Ensure communications are appropriate to BAC Employees, Directors, Communities, Stakeholders and partner organisations.

18.     Any other duties requested by your supervisor which are within your capabilities.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

Essential:

  1. Demonstrated experience working in a remote aboriginal community environment, with knowledge and understanding of aboriginal protocol and culture.

  2. Over 5 years’ experience in managing workshop operations and spare parts retail outlet or similar retail experience

 

Desirable:

  1. Experience working for a community development or not-for-profit organisation.
