Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) is a progressive Aboriginal corporation based in Maningrida that employs over 200 people. We represent and assist over 4000 Aboriginal people in the 32 homelands surrounding Maningrida in West Arnhem Land. Our work is carried out in the context of people’s traditional lands, cultural practices, and languages. Our services include new building and maintenance, road maintenance, arts, community development programs, collection of wild foods, and many more.
Job Description
BAC CDP’s goal is to assist jobseekers into employment and maintain an above average rating of our funding body. You are responsible for providing a high quality, individually tailored, service to all jobseekers, which will assist in their successfully transition to fulfilling and sustainable employment and/or education.
Desired Skills and Experience
Key Accountabilities
Coordinate and develop activity logistics, daily scheduling of job seekers attendance, appropriate supervision of activities and effectively measure daily attendance and captures non-attendance for reporting requirements.
Provide supervision to the activities Mentor CDP Mentor and job seekers on site.
Ensure that CDP staff and job seekers assigned to this activity, comply with their requirements and obligations.
Ensure that 100% of eligible jobseekers have a monthly contact appointment scheduled.
Provide clear directions to CDP Mentor to support with setting up CDP activities each day.
Work with your supervisor to develop a range of activities in line with CDP funding, to support job seekers address the barriers and lead sustainable employment and training/or education opportunities.
Coordinate events and activities that will increase positive experiences and achieve best possible outcomes for job seekers.
Maintain all CDP equipment and vehicles.
Identify employment and training opportunities for mentor and job seekers.
Build relationships with internal & external service providers and gain agreement on opportunities for mutually beneficial outcomes for community, participant, and program activities.
Deliver the BAC CDP Performance Improvement Plan with mentor.
Work effectively in a team environment with job seekers, employment consultants and others to ensure smooth operation of CDP activities
Implement effective policies, procedures and practices for activities within scope of role to support ongoing participation and engagement of job seekers
Adhere to the Workplace Health and Safety regulatory requirements
Identify continuous improvement opportunities
Develop and maintain positive stakeholder relationships with all BAC staff and develop sound working relationships through delivering appropriate and honest support and/or feedback.
Ensure communications are appropriate to BAC Employees, Communities, Stakeholders, and partner organisations.
Any other duties requested by your supervisor which are within your capabilities.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
Demonstrated experience working in a remote aboriginal community environment, with knowledge and understanding of aboriginal protocol and culture.
Experience working with remote aboriginal clients.
Demonstrated experience working with disadvantaged aboriginal persons in a community setting, developing positive community and stakeholder engagement practices that assist vulnerable people to improve their employment prospects.
Well-developed project management, planning, time management and organisational skills to manage competing deadlines, balance relationships and remain compliant within government operational guidelines.
Advanced computer skills including word processing, spread sheets, asset registers and CDP task management database to accurately record, document and report on activity and engagement outcomes.
Demonstrated capacity to prepare quality written reports, minutes, briefings, plain language community information tools and other materials as required.
Ability to mentor, supervise and develop work skills
Australian Police Clearance
Ochre Card (working with Children)
Desirable:
Experience working for a community development or not-for-profit organisation.
Experience and/or knowledge of Aboriginal culture and communities and how they operate.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
